Tonica Elektronik and MagVenture: A Journey from Humble Beginnings to Global Impact
The story of MagVenture, as our name outlines, the “Magnetic Adventure,” began in 1991 with the founding of Tonica Elektronik A/S in Denmark. This pioneering venture was the brainchild of engineer Stig Wanding Andersen, who remains owner and CEO of the company to this day. Andersen’s mission was simple yet profound: to create innovative technology that would enhance the lives of patients around the world.
The name Tonica itself proofs this mission. Derived from the Latin word “Tonicum,” meaning a strengthening or stimulating effect. Tonicum becomes Tonica in the plural – and thus reflects the company’s founding philosophy: to develop products that strengthen patients, both physically and mentally.

In 1991, Tonica Elektronik started in a rather modest setting in a true start-up fashion —a former greengrocer’s shop in Frederiksberg, Denmark, measuring just 60 square meters. However, it was here that big ideas were born. Andersen and his team developed the first MagPro® Magnetic Stimulator laying the foundation for what would become a revolutionary product in the field of magnetic stimulation. The MagPro would go on to earn international recognition, setting the stage for the company’s rapid growth.
As Tonica continued to expand, it began supplying MagPro® systems to a sister company, MagVenture A/S, which was established in 2007. MagVenture was created as a specialized distribution and sales brand, focused on bringing the MagPro® technology to a global market. What began as a small engineering project soon transformed into a global operation, with MagVenture leading the way in distributing non-invasive brain stimulation systems for both clinical use and research purposes.

MagVenture and Tonica has since grown in size and interrelationship. Today, the role of Tonica is responsible for all aspects of R&D manufacturing, testing, and repair of the MagPro systems, while MagVenture focuses on global distribution.
Today, the company operates through wholly owned subsidiaries in the USA, Germany, the UK, and Brazil and in addition, a global network of exclusive distribution partners across more than 50 countries. This wide-reaching presence has made MagPro® systems a household name among clinicians and researchers specializing in brain stimulation technologies.

Both Tonica and MagVenture AS operate under a shared Quality Management System (QMS) for medical devices. This ensures that all products meet stringent regulatory requirements, including compliance with the Medical Device Directive (MDD/MDR), the Medical Device Single Audit Program (MDSAP), and ISO 13485:2016 standards.
This magnetic adventure, which started in a small shop in Frederiksberg, continues to touch lives worldwide, offering hope to patients in need.
