🧠✨ Today marks 40 years since the groundbreaking publication that marked the birth of TMS!⁠

On May 11, 1985, Prof. Anthony Barker published a letter in The Lancet titled Non-Invasive Magnetic Stimulation of Human Motor Cortex, sharing the results of a pioneering experiment that would forever change the course of neuroscience.⁠
⁠
Just a few months earlier, on February 12, 1985, Dr. Barker and PhD student Reza Jalinous demonstrated their innovative device at Prof. Pat Merton’s lab in London. With a 90 mm circular coil placed on his head, Prof. Merton became the first person to have his brain stimulated by TMS — and the resulting thumb twitch signaled the birth of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.⁠

Since then, TMS has evolved from a scientific breakthrough into a life-changing therapeutic tool, helping people around the world. MagVenture is proud to be part of this incredible journey of innovation and care. 💙⁠
